Characters: Three hikers who happen to discover a box of gold in the mountains. Each of them had their own secrets, which made them extremely eager for money.
- Irene: a serious person (fair distribution）
- Motivation: She discovered that this batch of gold was inherently ill-gotten wealth (such as stolen goods hidden by corrupt officials or gangsters), believing that since there was no legitimate owner, it was the fairest outcome for the three of them to divide it up. She didn’t want to keep it all to herself, nor did she want to be deceived. She just hoped to share it according to reasonable rules.
- Mark: an impulsive person (who wants to keep the gold for himself)
- Motivation: He owed a large sum of money, possibly gambling debts or being pursued by usurers for debt repayment. Time was pressing and he needed to get a sum of money to save his life. When he saw the gold, he felt it was his only chance to turn things around, so he was willing to take risks and insist on keeping it all for himself.
- Casper: the person with persecutory delusion
- Motivation: He has always firmly believed that someone is hunting him down, possibly the government, a gang, or even some completely non-existent mysterious organization. He thinks that if he can obtain this gold, he will be able to secure his safety (such as bribing someone or changing identities by fleeing), so he is more nervous than anyone else, and might even suspect that his companions will betray him.
